A Sicily Destination Wedding at Villa Càrcara, Ragusa
There is something about getting married in Sicily that makes a wedding feel less like a single day and more like a place you have stepped into for a while.
Long lunches, warm evenings, olive groves, old stone walls, music drifting through the courtyard and all the people you love gathered under the Sicilian sun. For Sarah and Timur, that was exactly the idea.
Travelling has always been an important part of their relationship, and after years of exploring Italy together, they knew they wanted their wedding to feel like a shared escape with their closest friends and family.
They chose Villa Càrcara, near Ragusa, in southeastern Sicily, for its historic character, Mediterranean landscape and the possibility of turning the wedding into an entire weekend together. And it was every bit as beautiful as they had imagined.
A wedding weekend in the Sicilian countryside
Rather than arriving in Sicily for one wedding day and leaving again, Sarah and Timur wanted their celebration to unfold over an entire weekend.
Their guests gathered at the villa the day before the wedding for a relaxed pool party, with pizza, drinks, music and plenty of time for everyone to get to know each other. It was a fitting beginning to the weekend.
The couple had always imagined their wedding as a celebration shared with their people, rather than a formal event where everyone simply watches from the sidelines. Food, music, atmosphere and connection were just as important to them as the ceremony itself.
The following afternoon, everyone gathered again at Villa Càrcara for the wedding. This time, the olive garden became the setting for the ceremony.
An elegant Italian countryside wedding at Villa Càrcara
Villa Càrcara sits in the countryside around Ragusa, surrounded by the landscape that makes southeastern Sicily so distinctive.
The historic stone architecture, olive trees, dry-stone walls and Mediterranean gardens gave the entire wedding a naturally editorial quality, without needing to overdecorate the space.
That was one of the things Sarah and Timur loved most about the villa.
They wanted the setting itself to have a strong presence, and Villa Càrcara already had everything they were looking for: beautiful architecture, character, intimate spaces and the feeling of being somewhere genuinely connected to Sicily.
The ceremony took place in the olive garden, surrounded by their closest friends and family.
A close friend performed live during the ceremony, singing three songs, while Sarah and Timur exchanged their personal vows.
It was intimate, emotional and very personal, exactly as they had imagined.

Milla Nova, Prada and a timeless bridal look
Sarah’s bridal look was elegant, contemporary and unmistakably Italian in spirit.
She wore a Milla Nova wedding dress, with a clean silhouette and sculptural details that worked beautifully against the warm tones of the Sicilian landscape.
Her Prada bridal shoes added another fashion-forward element to the look, and the simplicity of the styling allowed the architecture, light and movement of the day to become part of the story.
For the groom, Timur wore a classic suit by Salvatore Piccolo, keeping the overall aesthetic refined and understated.
The combination worked particularly well with the setting: modern fashion against centuries-old Sicilian stone, soft summer light and the natural textures of the countryside.
This contrast is one of our favourite things about photographing weddings in Italy.
Documentary wedding photography with an editorial touch
Sarah and Timur told us from the beginning that they wanted their photographs to feel natural. They weren’t particularly used to professional photography and felt most comfortable when things were spontaneous rather than heavily directed.
At the same time, both of them have a strong appreciation for fashion and aesthetics. They wanted a mixture of documentary wedding photography, editorial portraits and analogue film photography. So that became the visual language of the day.
We photographed the moments as they happened, while also creating space for a few more considered portraits, using the architecture and landscape of Villa Càrcara as part of the composition.
The result is a gallery that moves between quiet details, genuine interactions, fashion-inspired portraits and the atmosphere of the celebration itself. Nothing needed to feel overly staged. The location already did so much of the work.
Champagne, an Italian aperitivo and golden-hour portraits
After the ceremony, the couple wanted to celebrate with all their guests before disappearing for their portraits.
A champagne tower became the perfect transition between the emotional ceremony and the beginning of the party.
While guests enjoyed the cocktail hour, we took Sarah and Timur away for around 20–30 minutes, photographing them through the olive garden and around some of the historic corners of the villa.
The late Sicilian light was incredible.
Warm sunlight fell across the stone walls, the olive trees and the dry countryside surrounding the villa, creating exactly the kind of atmosphere we love for destination wedding photography.
We also returned for a few additional portraits as guests began entering the courtyard for dinner, giving us a completely different perspective of the couple and the architecture.

Dinner took place in the historic courtyard of Villa Càrcara.
Round tables, natural textures, flowers, candles and warm Mediterranean tones worked beautifully with the old stone architecture surrounding them.
Rather than competing with the venue, the decoration complemented it.
The courtyard became the heart of the evening, with around 60 guests gathered together for dinner, speeches, music and celebration.
The wedding was planned by Adriana from Dazzled Events, with florals by Fiorelli Wedding and catering by Scibbui Catering.
The atmosphere evolved naturally as the light disappeared and the candles began to take over.

German and Turkish roots, celebrated in Sicily
Although Sarah and Timur are based in Berlin, their wedding brought together several different influences.
Their story began in Germany, while Timur’s Turkish heritage was also an important part of their celebration.
Music was particularly meaningful to them. Their shared taste ranges from disco house and techno to indie and alternative music, with Turkish influences naturally finding their way into the atmosphere of the weekend.
Rather than creating a wedding that felt entirely traditional, they wanted something personal: a meeting point between their German and Turkish backgrounds and the Italian setting they had fallen in love with.
That combination made the celebration feel incredibly alive.
From ceremony to dancing: the party at Villa Càrcara
Once dinner was over, the atmosphere changed completely.
There was a wedding cake, a first dance, an outfit change for Sarah and, from around 10pm onwards, music and dancing.
A DJ and live saxophone brought a completely different energy to the historic villa. And this was perhaps the most important part of the whole weekend. Sarah and Timur had told us that what they wanted to remember most wasn’t perfection.
It was the emotions, the spontaneous moments and the people they love.
The photographs from the party reflect exactly that. People laughing, dancing, hugging, moving through the courtyard, champagne glasses in the air and all the little interactions that are impossible to plan.
A destination wedding in Sicily that felt like a holiday with friends
What made this wedding particularly special was that it never felt like an isolated wedding day.
It felt like a few days in Sicily with the people who mattered most.
A pool party.
An Italian aperitivo.
An olive garden ceremony.
A champagne tower.
Dinner in an old stone courtyard.
Golden-hour portraits.
Live music.
Dancing late into the night.
That is one of the reasons we love photographing destination weddings in Sicily.
The island naturally creates an atmosphere around the celebration. And when a couple gives themselves enough time to experience it, the photographs become about much more than the ceremony itself.
They become a record of the whole experience.
Sicily Destination Wedding Photography and Film
For us, documenting a wedding like this is about finding the balance between observation and intention. We want to photograph what actually happens, the expressions, gestures, movement and relationships that make the day yours.
But we also love creating a few frames that feel more editorial, particularly when the location, fashion and architecture give us something to work with. For Sarah and Timur, that meant combining documentary photography, editorial wedding photography and analogue film throughout the weekend.
And because we work as both photographers and filmmakers, the same creative direction carries through the photographs and the wedding film. The result is a visual story that feels cohesive from beginning to end, while still allowing the day to unfold naturally.
